Harvest University Shares Vision and Dreams at Welcome Event

Harvest University hosted government officials and prominent guests at a special welcome event on July 9, 2021.

The event started with an opening prayer from Pastor Brent Harwerth of Berean Bible Church, then special guests in attendance were recognized: Morgan County Commissioner Gordon Westhoff, Fort Morgan City Councilwoman Lyn Deal, Fort Morgan Police Chief Loren Sharp and two representatives from Congressman Ken Buck’s office.

HU President Joanna Shih shared the vision and dreams of the school. She also thanked the City of Fort Morgan for its support and warm welcome.

Built in 1925, the HU campus was the first high school in town. It transitioned into a middle school in 1984 and was acquired by Calvary University in 2017.

Harvest University purchased the building from Calvary University in August 2020 and hopes to continue the rich history of Christian education witnessed at the site.

“We are so thankful that we not only will preserve the over 90 years of rich history of education in this building, but will also bring revival through the teaching of God’s word, building a Jesus-centered community, and growing together with the students to make an impact for Christ among the millions in desperate need of salvation,” said President Shih.

Following the presentation, guests celebrated the newest chapter for the school with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and enjoyed lunch fellowship at the cafeteria.

Harvest University to Register as Historic Building

Harvest University is planning to register the school building as a historic building with the state and national registry. Built in 1925, the HU campus was the first high school in town.

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources.

The recommendation for the registration was made by Fort Morgan City Council member Lyn Deal, who came to visit Harvest University on April 28, 2021.

Since late 80s, Deal has been involved with the preservation of historic building when the initiatives for historic preservations took off. She has lived in Fort Morgan for 56 years and has created a preservation board and worked with the city to pursue preservation for 30 years.

As a strong Bible-centered believer, Deal is thankful that Harvest University came so that the building would not be abandoned, but instead it will continue the history of education and continue to develop and flourish.

HU Continues Rich History of Christian Education at Former Calvary University Campus

Harvest University, a bible-based Christian higher education institution, has been established in Colorado with the commission of training believers, in particular from East Asia, in the understanding of the Scriptures, and with the goal of sending them out to mission fields across the globe upon completion of their degrees.

The school will be conducting its activities at the former Calvary University Innovation Center in Fort Morgan, Colorado, where the Kansas-based evangelical college historically conducted the training of their students. Harvest University hopes to continue the rich history of Christian education witnessed at Calvary University at the site, and to make a significant impact for wider evangelism in the world.

With high goals and lofty ambitions, Harvest University will be challenging the status quo and leading its students to achieve great things for God through equipping them with cutting edge curriculums and resources.

In a modern world where Christianity is often the target of ridicule and persecution, Harvest University has chosen to establish its training ground in the northeastern part of Colorado, the heartland of the United States, where religious liberty is guaranteed by the Constitution.

With the establishment of the institution in Fort Morgan, the Harvest University leadership hopes to bring about a revival through the teaching of God’s word, building a Jesus-centered community, and growing together with the student body to make an impact for Christ among the millions in desperate need of salvation.

34,000 Christian Books Added to Harvest University Library

34,000 books have been added to Harvest University’s library. The books were purchased from Calvary University, which previously owned the Fort Morgan campus.

The collection of books include Biblical theology, doctrinal theology, pastoral resources, church history, apologetics, Biblical languages etc. HU has also obtained the online library catalog for the books.

The quality theological books would be a great learning resources to equip students with a firm Biblical foundation and sound doctrine. HU library is planning to add more Chinese theology books in the coming future.

Open Access Resource List for Research Published on Library Website

Joseph R.Tallan Library published a selective list of Open Access resources that are helpful for general research. They include open books, open peer-reviewed journals, theses and dissertations, art and image, music and media, data and statistics, research tools, and more.

You can check out the list on the library webpage: http://library.olivetuniversity.edu/research/open_access_resources.html.

Open Access resources are available for viewing or use free of charge and excellent materials to supplement other online library materials. Many scholarly and peer-reviewed journals have opened their previous issues as open access, and some journals have converted to open access for all issues partially or entirely.

While most of the Open Access resources are still under copyright by their creators, academic or educational use is generally allowed without permission. For faculty, open access materials can usually be linked from an online syllabus or reading list. However, it is recommended to make sure to check the copyright or permissions statement before use.

Do research online
Library materials available online, such as digitized collections and databases, continue to be accessible. You can use either the EZ Proxy service or the SonicWall Secure Remote Access to connect to the Library. Learn more. You must have an active net ID and password to access electronic Library materials. If you have trouble accessing materials, please report a problem.

Study or browse in the libraries
With our new Study-Browse Service, faculty may use our seat reservation system to book a seat in the libraries and study or browse the stacks. The service is available at all campus libraries. Seats can be reserved for up to eight hours in half hour increments. Seat reservations are available to faculty who have completed training, hold an active PUID, and are authorized by their department to be on campus. Please note that printers and scanners in the libraries will not be available for use this fall.

Access print collections
For print collections, faculty are welcome to request book pick-up or in-house digitization services. To request an item for pick-up or digitization, click the “Request Pick-up or Digitization” button in the catalog record. The book pick-up service is available for faculty who have completed safety training and hold an active PUID.

Use technology
To ensure the health and safety of patrons and staff, public printers, scanners, and computers are not available at this time. Please submit scanning requests through the “Request for Pick-up and Digitization” button found on an item’s catalog entry page. Specialized computers accommodating certain programs are available. Please contact individual library locations to inquire. Office of Information Technology offers printer clusters at locations on campus.

Borrow materials from other libraries
Interlibrary Loan is not currently available. Borrow Direct services have resumed. For materials from other libraries, submit a request through Article Express. To check the status of a request, please email ilsborr@princeton.edu

Teaching Assistance

Consult with your subject specialist
The librarian assigned to your department is available to create course guides, recommend materials, teach a workshop through Zoom, and virtually meet with your students. You can reach out to them directly by email to request instruction.

Request digitization of course reserves
Need materials digitized for course reserves? Submit a request through Blackboard or Canvas.

  • Log into the course management system (Blackboard or Canvas).
  • Select your course.
  • Click on the “Reserves” link on the course site menu.
  • If this is the first time you’ve used Reserves for this course, you will be prompted to choose a semester and click on “Create course.”
  • At the top right of the following page, click on “Item tools” and select “Add items.”
  • A new page will open with options for adding material to the course. You may select a form (article, chapter, book, file upload, audio, and video) and submit individual requests for items to be placed on reserve.

Requests can also be placed through Ares. To check on the status of your request or add more items to your reserve list, log in to the course management system and select the “Reserve” option. If you have any questions, email the Reserve staff at reserve@princeton.edu. Please note: PUL will not provide print course reserves this fall.

Utilize special collections in courses
Schedule a consultation with our Special Collections department to design a fall virtual class session, or join an open and informal Virtual Visit to ask staff any questions related to special collections such as how to deliver images on teaching platforms, providing live or recorded instruction with materials, or brainstorming teaching ideas.
